Love Facts about Aquarians

• Unconventional
• Humanitarian
• Futuristic
Some people with a lot of Aquarius in their chart (often, Mercury and Venus are in the same sign as your sun) can be unaware of how committed they are to their ideas about unconventionality. These people sometimes want their partners to be as unconventional. People with non-Aquarian natal influences may not want or need to be as “different” as Aquarians pride themselves on being. People born under the sign of the water bearer who struggle to get their ideas implemented may discover that the right partner can help implement some of an Aquarian’s big ideas.

Aquarius rules science and, therefore, (some forms of) truth. This is “scientific” truth, which is only one form (thus sayeth a person with a Pisces sun…) Aquarians may not always understand or respect forms of truth that cannot be tested in controlled double-blind study.

When Venus, the planet of love, is in Aquarius, the same characteristics apply: relationships will need to allow for lots of change & stimulation, will probably be unconventional (although exactly what that is today is anyone’s guess!), and may be more intellectually based than emotionally driven.

The sign of your natal moon will have a huge influence on how your Aquarian sun expresses itself in relationships. Regardless of the moon, however, an Aquarian’s challenge in a relationship is to allow your partner’s views to be heard, respected, and included.

Aquarius and the Love Calculator Toolkit

If you are someone with a lot of water bearer influence in your natal chart, you might find that using the Love Calculator Toolkit feeds both planetary rulers of Aquarius, which are Saturn and Uranus. Saturn loves the discipline and order that a well-considered list of criteria can give you. Uranus, planet of individuality and revolution leading to personal transformation, will not like the actual step-by-step approach of the toolkit as much. However, Uranus loves new possibilities and might consider the exercise as a sort of “love quiz for Aquarius.”

Love Quiz: Aquarius

Aquarius’ love traits are so unconventional that you’ll need to write your own test. Aquarians need a partner who can support them in their radical ideas, so develop criteria for open-mindedness. Your partner’s degree of open-mindedness doesn’t have to be exactly the same as yours, as much as it needs to be supportive of the way you think. Potential partners won’t be as full of ideas as you are. They do have to be people open to new thought, rather than people who believe “everything useful has already been invented.”

Think about someone with pragmatic implementation skills. You have big ideas. They understand project plans. This is a useful partnership.

Because you’re prone to being convinced of your rightness, look for someone emotionally aware enough to hold your feet to the fire when you’re simply rude, who can see past your intellectual surface to the heart that can sometimes be lonely but doesn’t know how to talk in “emotion.”

Capricorn in Love

Dependable

  • Stable
  • Duty

First things first:  the Love Calculator Toolkit was made for Capricorns, born out of a first house Saturn in Capricorn, needing to manage an intuitive and emotional Piscean heart that used to have trouble making decisions on its own.  Capricorns believe that solutions can be found to most problems, and they are willing to do the implementation work that turns a theoretical answer into something real.

A Capricorn in love is an industrious creature, taking care of details, never missing an appointment, knowing how to manage all the details of a courtship flawlessly.  Perhaps, the Capricorn man in love might miss a few flowers.  Flowers aren’t practical.  A financial planner wouldn’t argue with this point, and a woman aware of the importance of a retirement fund might find it easier to grow her own flowers than to complain that “Capricorn men in love aren’t romantic.”  She’d be right.  Similarly, the Scorpio man in love with a Capricorn woman might find her more attentive to the details of their long term plans than thrilled by his roses.

If you’re the person sharing the Capricorn’s love life, get used to it.  You may need to remember that it’s hard to be romantic when you’re worried about where the next mortgage payment is coming from.  Capricorns solve that problem.  They’ll be brilliant in business, perhaps to the neglect of other arenas of life.  If you’re the sun Capricorn person, you need to look for someone who can help you expand your attention.  If you have a Capricorn in love with you, it will be important to find a way to bring non-business interests into your life without in any way labeling the Goat’s interest and drive as  “wrong.”  Expect your partner to be full of common sense, which can sometimes feel like a pin prick if your approach to life is more fanciful.

How to find a love match for sign Capricorn:

If you’re the Capricorn in love, know that you, above all the other signs, are pragmatic, practical, detailed, thorough, and persistent.  You will not find, and do not need, someone with any more skills in this direction.  What you need is to find someone who values those skills, perhaps more than someone who needs them.  You don’t need a “project” relationship.  A person who’s completely up in the air all the time may feel like a perfect match in the beginning, but may all too soon come to think of you as “boring.”  You’re not boring.  You’re thorough.  It’s different.

A partner with ideas?  Great.  With delusions?  No.  Exactly what form your criteria take will depend on your other interests.  Are you an outdoors person?  Find someone with ideas about places to go, and people to travel with, and you can build the project plan that makes the expedition successful.

Depending on your age and life story, you may have come to recognize that your own emotions run deep, but not always public.  Look for a partner who can give you space to express and understand your feelings, rather than someone who expects you to match them in speed and facility with the a-rational (I refuse to call them “irrational”) elements of our responses to life.

Books about Relationships for a Capricorn love match:

Finding Matches Based on Your Birthday

In theory, it is possible to find love matches based on your birthdays.  Lots of people follow sun sign, or sun and moon sign, recommendations about dating.  A dozen years ago, the book The Secret Language of Relationships popularized the idea of predicting the outcome of relationships based on birthdays.  The authors draw broad conclusions about the likelihood of any particular pair of birthdays working out into relationship success.

I know my birthday, and, therefore, I should be able to create a list of birthday love matches—possible partners who were born on the days that are going to be compatible with me.  Easy enough, right?  If only.  Why aren’t we seeing it in action?

The practical problems with looking for a birthday love match are:

In most situations, people don’t organize themselves according to their birthday, once they find themselves enrolled in school.  In the US, at least, school start dates separates September from October Libras, but that’s not terribly helpful 20 or 40 years later.

I have seen a few websites that offer to find partners for you based on an interpretation of your natal chart.  It appears to me that these sites fall into the same problem that any highly selective online dating service, or matchmaker, experiences—how big is the database?  I found no (useful) matches in eHarmony, in 2004.  Several of my friends had the same experience.  If a business with national advertising didn’t have a sufficiently big dataset to find a partner for me, I wonder how a site with no obvious marketing effort could have many candidates to offer?  After all, a compatible birthday doesn’t guarantee a love match.  What if he’s too short?  Or hates dogs?  Or lives in Alaska?

The Secret Language of Relationships isn’t “backward indexed,” in that, if you want to find out who would be a good match for someone with your birthday, you have to look through each page and write down the good matches one by one.  Furthermore, the authors identify good matches for sex, love, and marriage separately.  While these may be different desired outcomes, I always thought they belonged together in a good long term relationship.

Finally, finding a birthday love match based on sun & moon signs is neither necessary nor sufficient to determine the outcome.  Astrologers who offer synastry consulting—information about the relationship, based on the charts of each partner—look at many more variables than sun and moon signs alone.  When you find a likely candidate for “permanent partner,” getting a synastry reading can be useful.  But it doesn’t work without the partner.

Where does that leave you?  Not exactly back where you started.  Once you have a potential partner in mind, you can learn a bit more “behind the scenes” by researching your birthday love match information.  Until that point, you simply have to do the work, which usually means, “meet people.”  Know your criteria.  You can certainly use sun or moon signs as items in your list.  I’m certainly not a love match for sun sign Capricorns, but the truth is, that was always apparent long before I bothered to learn any particular man’s  birthday.  As it turns out, the man who had the best “score” on my list the last time I was dating turned out to be astrologically compatible, but I didn’t use “sun sign” on my list.

Chances are, if you’re clear about what you want in a partner and then use your criteria when you spend time in dating activities, whether online dating sites, speed dating, or blind date introductions from friends, the potential partners who “stick” will turn out to be birthday love matches as well.  It’s simply easier to find the right person for you b y meeting people directly, than by trying to pre-sort by birthday.

Love’s Book of Answers

by Carol Bolt

Love’s Book of Answers is a pretty random-number-generator for questions about relationships; a bound-and-printed version of an 8-Ball.  You ask a question, then open the book at random and let the answer on the page guide you.  “don’t be too sentimental.”  “become your own fantasy.”  “call now.”  Amazon tells me the author has published a previous Book of Answers that became a best seller. (When I looked for those links, I found the Soul’s Book of Answers as well.  Wonder what the overlap % is?)

If you’re already using one of the ancient divination systems, you will probably prefer the detail you get in its responses.

Plenty of families have used the Bible in exactly the same way, with a vastly greater range of possible outcomes.

If you like pretty coffee table books and don’t already own an 8-Ball, Love’s Book of Answers might be interesting.  I grabbed my copy off the new book shelf at the library so I could look at it in detail later.  Didn’t take long to know I didn’t need to own it.  Lots of shelf space for not much content.

(Shelf space matters to me.  I once ran a personal ad that said, “Unless you own 2*(your age) in shelf-feet of books, you may not be comfortable in my home.  Dated the guy who responded for four years.)

Thoughts on the items marked with * and **:

In Chapter 10 of Predictably Irrational, behavioral economist Dan Ariely discusses the documented effect of price on the effectiveness of products, from knee surgery through couches to aspirin.  In all cases, participants reported better results if the product in question costs more.

In other words, people looking for “Love spells that work” should be prepared to spend a lot of money. Can we assume that “love spells that work instantly” are the highest grade of love spell, and should, therefore, be the most expensive?  If this is true, spending time on “free love spells that work instantly” is wasted effort.
